Quick n’ Lovely Review: e.l.f Studio Complete Coverage Concealer

It’s been awhile since my last post, and thanks again to T for holding up the fort effortlessly as I was swamped with work the last week and half or so. Anywho, back to it!

T and I did a mini e.l.f shop a few weeks back and I was able to pick up my share of the products this weekend. After testing them out I figured I would do a quick review on the Studio Complete Coverage Concealer palette today (Light).

Firstly, of course the insanely expensive $3 pricetag had me skeptical about the whole purchase (hah..). I’ve had some really good luck with e.l.f in the past, and I’ve recently been on the hunt for more variety in my concealer collection as I get more and more ‘diverse’ in my makeup practice. So I saw this and figured why not try it! Especially at that price.

– The Look –

Packaging is typical e.l.f super light and cheap feeling black plastic case. But I can’t say I don’t like it…As someone who is on the go quite often I can always appreciate a product that is super light and compact. The case has a very tight clasp and so I always can be sure it is closed, which is another thing that I always look out for in a product. The size of mirror in the package isn’t the best – but I’m just glad that there is one there at all, as sometimes they don’t even bother to add one. Applicator is just a regular cheap flat head brush that I will never use. Sometimes I just wish these companies would stop adding the applicators and make room for more product instead, since who the heck really uses them anyway?!

– Smell and Feel –
No unusual smell that I can detect, other than a normal makeup smell… if that makes any sense! The concealers are much creamier than I initially expected them to be. I was anticipating them to be extremely stiff and to need much warming up before application – but I was pleasantly surprised.

– Functionality –
I must say that I am quite impressed with this little packaging of camouflage for my too often sleep deprivation. The two lightest shades in the bunch are most definitely accurate for my undereye area, espeically when I mix both of them together. I added a bit of the other two to try and do some around the face concealing and it was okay – but I am more than sure that I will get better use of these two once summer hits and I (hopefully) will have a bit more colour to my face. They apply quite creamy, and feel surprisingly close to my Mac Studio Finish Concealer upon application. They are not something that I would use a brush for application as they’re a bit too creamy. I always find that my ring finger is my best friend when it comes to applying creamier under eye products, like my NARS Creamy Concealer, etc. Overall, the application is quite good and I am happy with the lack of cakey-look afterwards, as I have been someone who has struggled with concealers making me look cakey under the eyes. Staying power has been good – it’s been now about 5 hours since application and it hasn’t moved, with no primer. Apologies for the funny looks of the photos below of the differences – clearly you can distinguish between my left eye with concealer, other with no makeup. Took them in three different lights within my house, natural, artificial, no light.

Comparision - Natural Light, mid day

Comparision – Natural Light, mid day

Comparison - artificial light

Comparison – artificial light

Comparison - no light, living room mid day

Comparison – no direct light, living room mid day

– Downsides –
I don’t think I can say anything negative about this product – especially given its price point. Good coverage, useful colour range (for my skin tone – but the darker palettes look quite giving as well), and good staying power…for $3!

Would I recommend?
Absolutely. If you are looking to extend your range in concealer tones and don’t have a lot of money to spend, than this may be perfect for you. Taking into consideration the cost of the product, I give this an A+ for value. I honestly can’t even tell the difference of this versus my MAC concealer…

Have you tried any e.l.f products? What’s your favourite?

Looks I Like: Emilia Clarke

Hey Pretty Lovelies!

How are we all doing on this fine Wednesday? Both V and I are terribly busy but we didn’t want to leave you without something to pop by and read. So I thought of a series that I can so that it quick and easy and thus Looks I Like was born!

If you watch Game of Thrones you’ll know who Emilia Clarke is… or at least who her character Daenerys Targarye is. I actually don’t watch is BUT I WANT TO, so don’t get mad at me. If you don’t watch Game of Thrones you’ve probably still seen this gorgeous girl around.

Anyway onto the beauty of it all. Emilia is just a gorgeous girl to begin with which means pretty much every make-up or no make-up look I’ve seen on her looks STUNNING. Here are three of my favourite looks.

PicMonkey CollageemiliaSee? Stunning in all three. Lets go play by play shall we?

This MIGHT be my favourite make-up look. It the kind that isn’t too showy but is OH SO romantic. I mean look at the way it accentuates her beautiful features? I feel like I would want this make-up for my wedding day or any kind of formal event. I love that her brows look defined but natural, I love the pearly grey eyeshadow paired with the black liner that makes her beautiful eyes pop. I’m a SUCKER for this eye look. Absolutely. And to top it up with those peachy rosey cheeks and those lips to match? Perfection.

When I first say this look I COULD NOT stop staring. It is obviously MUCH more dramatic but I love it. The brows are much more defined and really make her eyes pop paired with the heavy grey, greenish dark smokey eye. I absolutely love the mix of colours for this look, you can see hints of green, dark grey, silver, black, brown. It actually looks like the make-up artist used her eye colour as inspiration! Love that, because it makes all the different colours of her eyes pop. Pair it with that PERFECT colour blush that goes so well with her skin and that shimmery rosey lip, so stunning, so glamorous.

Does anyone remember the splash she made when she posted this photo? What an absolute stunner. I almost prefer her without make-up! (almost). Its amazing how much confidence she has in this photo, well no wonder because she is drop dead gorgeous. I love that she embraces her natural look. I know for some of us it is SO not this easy because we might not have her flawless skin or beautiful pouty lips. But to me there is just something SO beautiful about a bare face, no matter who it is. To stand up to the world and say I am happy in my own skin is a goal some of us never reach. But the first step to finding the confidence is within you and breaking those molds that society put on you. But trust me I’m not saying make-up is bad — make-up is fun, its a creative outlet, its a confidence booster, it was made to highlight our beautiful features. So whether you ‘hide’ behind it or wear it for fun. Or whether you don’t see the point or are not sure how to apply it. Its all good. Its all relevant, its all a truth. BE YOU. BE HAPPY. Because THAT is what TRUE beauty is. And don’t let anyone give you slack for dressing up or dressing down. If you feel comfortable, then they don’t matter!

So there you have it, three of my favourite looks on the stunning Emilia Clarke. TOTAL girl crush alert.

Quick n’ Lovely Review: Let’s Get Glossy

Hey Pretty Lovelies!

I recently made an order over at Sephora and if you are a regular of their online store you’ll know you get TONS of FREE samples and bundles and goodies. Well I got a VIB Lip deluxe sample Trio which has three lip glosses and boy was I excited. Little did I know I was about to meet my current favourite gloss.

Lets get down and glossy shall we?

Stila Lip Glaze in Starfruit
This product is my least favourite out of the three, but is still nice.

– The Look –
The packaging is light and soft. I’d say I’m a fan of the see-through look. It can make it look less luxurious though, so for me its targeted towards a younger audience, which is fine! One of my favourite things about these types of lip glosses is when the brush is fresh and white and untouched. Then you spend like 5 minutes cranking the thing and finally a burst of colour erupts, so fun! The colour is like a peachy mauve.

– Functionality –
I find with these you really have to get a lot of product out to have the right amount transfer onto your lips. I find myself twisting it a few times to get the look I want. I honestly feel like most of it stays on the brush. And sometimes as a result you’ll over do it and it looks like a hot mess.

– Smell and Feel –
It smells sweet and fruity which is different from other products out there. However it kind of sticks around so if it annoys you, its probably not the best for you.  The feel is gooey and really sticky, especially when you put too much on.

– Downsides –
I’d say the dispensing system and the brush aren’t that great for really getting a good bang for your buck. If you get impatient waiting for the product to come up its very easy to crank it too many times and end up with a mess of way too much product. And for me this colour isn’t perfect, but for someone else it just might be! Plus the gooey feeling isn’t ideal.

– Recommend? –
Not particularly.

Buxom Full-Bodies Lip Gloss in Yow
I am definitely a fan of this lip gloss.

– The Look –
I like the look of this, especially the handle, however its a bit bulky. The colour is a ‘blushing pink pearl’ and is just a bit darker than my ideal lip colour so I’m a fan.

– Functionality –
It goes on very nice. It has a plumping effect which I can vouch for, my lips did seem to look fuller, but if you are looking for a dramatic change, you’re knocking on the wrong door.

– Smell and Feel –
It smells of mint or caramel… I know those are different but, maybe its vanilla mint? I’m really not sure, maybe my sniffer is off haha. There is no tingle, so if tingle bugs you, this would be up your alley. It is however, sticky.

– Downsides –
The bulkiness of the package makes it not ideal for a pocket but its definitely easy to overlook if you like the product and you throw it in your bag anyway.

– Recommend? –
Yeah, I think I’d tell people to give it a go!

bareMinerals Marvelous MOXIE Lipgloss in Rebel
Meet my current favourite. My Nico Mirallegro of lip glosses… meaning I am so totally crushing on it. So obviously I saved the best for last.

– The Look –
In the photo above it looks pretty pink, but in reality its more of a mauve pink. However it is the pinkest out of the three. It is the PERFECT colour for my lips and it makes them look SO insanely nice. I love the packaging. I mean look at it, the angle on the handle is subtle but different enough to make it stand out. The wand is angled which I like a lot actually and not just for looks.

– Functionality –
The angled wand is great for application, a good amount comes out, pretty standard. The staying power is pretty standard for a lip glossy but because I like the colour so much its a joy reapplying!

– Smell and Feel –
The smell is a lovely mint so you feel very refreshed when you are wearing it. It tingles as well so that helps. The feel is glossy and… they may lose points for some of you, it IS sticky. But I really don’t mind because I love it so much. But maybe ask me on a really windy day when my hair sticks to it and I’m cursing.

– Downsides –
The sticky can be a problem for some people. Maybe the staying power… its a lip gloss so it wont stay as long as some other lips products. Otherwise, none!

– Recommend? –
I would TOTALLY recommend.

(Right to left. bareMinerals Rebel, B and Stila )

(Right to left. bareMinerals Rebel, Buxom Yow and Stila Starfruit )

So there you have it, three similar glosses and in my opinion its ranked bareMinerals, Buxom and lastly Stila!

What is your favourite gloss at the moment? Share your thoughts… so I can add them to my list!

Stay Lovely,

All I Want for Spring Wishlist

all I want to spring
Hey Pretty Lovelies!

Spring is coming up (too slowly if you ask anyone) and I wanted to do my first wishlist on Pretty Lovely Girls. It is no surprise that you’ll find a lot of pink on my wishlist, good thing its for Spring! I also wanted to start doing wishlists on here to keep my budget accountable. I’m trying to be a responsible adult and limit my beauty spending. Here are the things I’ll be saving up for.

Spring Wish listedit11. Hourglass Aura Sheer Lip Stain in Petal $31
I already have this lip stain in Flush and Scarlet, you can see the reviews here. But I want another pink shade to enter my stain collection. Call me a sucker for a pink lip and I would not correct you.

2. Benefit Gimme Brow in light/medium $22
From what I’ve seen review wise this product looks unreal! It seems to have it all in one, keeping my brows in place and filling them in. WANT. WANT. WANT!

3. Bite Matte Creme Lip Crayon in Sweety $28
When I saw this at Sephora I almost bought it then and there, but I held back and the fact that I am still fantasizing about this perfect pink means its only a matter of time before I get it.

4. Soap and Glory Sugar Crush Body Scrub $20
I am in SERIOUS need of a good body scrub, to get rid of all this winter skin and walk into Spring with a new bounce in my step. I can’t wait for this one.

5. Illamasqua Nail Varnish in Lament $14.50 (UK)
This colour is a solid pink to have in your nail polish collection. For me I always periodically go to a great pink colour and I have a feeling I’ll love this one.

6. Soap and Glory Clean on Me Shower Gel $14
I like the sound of this shower gel because it sounds really creamy and wonderful and I definitely want that on top of the body scrub. Plus I’ve only heard good things about Soap and Glory and I’ve been dying to try something from them. And I need a new shower gel experience.

Have you made your Spring wishlist yet? What is on it?

V: The Self Love Tag

The selflovetag
Hey Pretty Lovelies!

I figured I would carry forwards T’s great Self Love Tag post from Sunday and do it myself!

Here are the rules:
Answer all of the below questions in a blog post.
Then nominate at least 5 other bloggers.

1. What does Self-love mean to you?
Self love to me means putting yourself before anyone else. It means being able to step back when needed and to do what you need and is best for yourself. It is something that I work on every day, and still have ways to go.

2. What is your favourite way to pamper yourself?
My favourite evenings at home are when I’m listening to my favourite tunes du jour, having some much needed wine and getting into a good book.

3. What are your three favourite hobbies/ pass times that make your soul feel on fire?
Reading, drinking coffee/wine, having great conversations with the ones I love.

4. What movie always puts you in a good mood when you’re not in the greatest mood?
Tori and I are too similar…I’m going to just leave her answer here!!!! Probably The Wedding Date, I’m a sucker for Romantic Comedies.
PicMonkey Collagewd

5. Who do you trust SO MUCH that you would easily believe in anything and everything they said?
My sister. I grew up believing all of the silly things she used to say…and still do! And the legitimate ones too.

6. What quote totally motivates you?
To be honest I don’t really have a favourite quote…but given stress in my life recently, ‘one day at a time’ seems relevant.

7. When was the last time you took yourself on a date? What did you do?
I have a date with myself every Friday night :).

8. What make-up or beauty product makes you feel like a million bucks?
All of my skincare products. Taking care of my skin every morning and night is the best thing that I do for myself and absolutely love it.

9. What is the last thing you did for someone else that made you feel amazing?
I can’t say I remember the last thing exactly that I did for someone else, but I know that just as my friends are there for me on a daily basis, I am there for them. But I absolutely need to be more self aware of these things.

10. Do you feel comfortable with and without make-up on? Why?
Yes. I don’t wear makeup probably 3 days a week. I guess one thing that I was given a break is with my skin. I don’t have perfect skin – but good enough that I don’t mind not wearing make up. I love letting my skin breathe, but don’t take it the wrong way! Make up is one of my biggest loves!

11. What piece of advice would you give a child about to grow up with the pressures of today’s media and its crushing expectations?
Take pride in who you are and what you really want to do with your life, and do all that is possible to get there – because one day all of those people who ever made you second guess anything will be a distant memory and you will be surrounding by like minded, respectful and wonderful individuals.

12. What song puts you in a good mood every time?
I don’t think I could narrow this down to one song – but maybe one day I’ll post my current favourite playlist 🙂

13. What is the best advice someone gave you or you realized about life?
Just breathe.

14. Who makes you giggle like a giggle monster?
Again – I think all of my friends. We all have our different abilities to make eachother laugh for different reasons, and it’s wonderful.

15. What is something about society that bugs you that you wish didn’t?
Ignorance of our generation. I get very bothered and upset when I hear that friends or peers of mine couldn’t care less to be aware of what is going on in the world. I disgusts me that we who are so.damn.fortunate are more than happy to live in a ladeeda world and turn a blind eye. Great things, great change doesn’t happen that way. Loving ourselves is important, but it won’t help to change the worlds problems. I want to make a difference with my life, and I think it’s an absolute tragedy that all most young people (especially females) care about is how many calories they burned at the gym today. Open your eyes, be aware of the world – and truly humble yourself in the process.

16. What is one of your favourite things to do on the weekends?
Sleep. Legitimately my favourite thing about the weekends. I don’t have to think about stress from work, nonsense from anything else. I like to sleep in until my body decides to wake up (within reason) and catch up on news, reading…whatever I truly feel like doing that day. Sleep is one of the best things possible, and I attribute my overall attitude, happiness, ability to deal with stress, and even my skin to my sleep. Yep.

17. What is something you’re really proud of that you’ve done?
When I stopped listening to everyone else, and when I stopped bothering reading Perez or other gossip sites. Stopped buying magazines and going on insane Facebook creeps on people who I was ‘jealous’ of. I stopped all of that self-destructive behaviour and I came out on top.

18. What is one of your favourite memories with one of your friends?
All of them.

19. What advice would you give someone who needs a boost in confidence?
Unplug from the world. Start for a little while, turn your cell phone on silent (other than important calls) when you come home from work or school. Don’t log into Facebook for an entire evening. Start small. There are now weeks that I will go without logging in or reading up on gossip. These are the things that will destroy your self confidence bit by bit. Learn to love yourself and love to be alone. I love spending time alone. I love those days or weekends where I won’t even open my laptop, or look at my phone for an entire day. Start trying to be comfortable spending time with yourself, I promise you that the confidence will come quickly.

20. Lastly, how do you plan on investing in self-love?
Putting my goals and aspirations before anyone else. Do they wanna go out to eat at an expensive restaurant? Maybe it isn’t in my budget, so I will allow myself to say no. If I really feel like drinking on a Saturday night because I really, really wanted to be productive and have a great Sunday, then I will allow myself to say no.

I tag YOU, the reader to go and do your version of this tag. Even if you don’t have a blog, answer the questions to yourself or your friends.

Thanks again to my best blogger queen in crime T for writing this amazing post and for letting me be a part of this entire experience with her.

Quick n’ Lovely Review: Hourglass Aura Sheer Lip Stain

Hey Pretty Lovelies!

I went on a hunt over the holidays for lip stains, because I really didn’t want to have to constantly re-apply my lips throughout the work day and I wanted to look nice and fresh.

V had mentioned Hourglass to me, I think something about their lipsticks? And I was browsing their products when I saw their lip stains. I was so excited, so I got two colours — Flush and Scarlet.

– The Look –
I’m digging the sleek shiny grey packaging. I like the applicator, it feels nice and it distributes the product well. One of the great things about this stain is that its build-able, it doesn’t totally overpower your lip in one swipe (well depending on the colour, I’m looking at you Scarlet). You can wear it at a variety of styles, bold and flawless or a touch of colour. Flush is a bold berry pink that I absolutely love. While Scarlet is a plum and very fashion forward.

– Smell and Feel –
The smell is… well it smells like make-up. Honestly I’m not sure how to describe it, but it (the smell) doesn’t stay so don’t worry you wont be smelling it the whole time you’re wearing it. The feel is pretty drying actually. It doesn’t feel rich or creamy, it just feels like you’re spreading liquid on your lips. But being a sufferer of dry lips, it doesn’t seem to bug me all that much. It stings a little bit at first but once it dries it feels fine. Throughout the day I need to put some lip chap on, which is fine by me.

– Functionality –
As mentioned I love the applicator. The staying power is pretty damn great. It fades throughout the day but at the end of an eight hour work shift I’ve still got some colour, which I love. In fact the Scarlet, upon first try, seriously stained my lips for like 24 hours. I tried make-up remover, Vaseline, exfoliating. This shit wanted to stay put. So if you are going to go for a BOLD colour like Scarlet, be ready to really rock it, there is no going back. You can see below how it goes on and then how much it has stained even though I used make-up remover.

– Downsides –
Its a bit drying and can REALLY stain in the dark colour so be careful about that. Also you’ll want to be really careful when applying because if you miss, you’ll have a hell of a time getting the purple splotch off of your face… Flush is A LOT more forgiving.

Would I recommend?
YES! If you are looking for a stain, this product is great. If you are prone to dry lips, test it out, wear it for a day and see how it feels.

Have you tried any stains? PLEASE tell me about them, I want more!

Stay lovely,
