Spread The Laughter

Hey Pretty Lovelies!

First off I am sincerely sorry for being MIA. Unfortunately I have some sad news to share. My mom has passed away. She was the most special person in the world to me, my best friend.

She taught me so much about what it meant to be a strong woman and a strong person and how sharing love can be the best feeling in the world. I don’t feel prepared to write a whole post about this part of my life just yet, though I will in the future – to help others who are also going through loss and to educate people on why you shouldn’t be scared of grieving or having a grieving person in your life.

But before that post happens, I wanted to spread some LOVE AND LAUGHTER!

While I was home my best friend Ally came to be with me, she is my sister and my mom was like her second mom. A couple years ago Ally and I started a YouTube Channel called The Bright n Shiny Show. Its main purpose is to make people smile and laugh, with a few life lessons and other random stuff we want to document and share. We currently live across the country from one another but while she was home we did THE WHISPER CHALLENGE!

So here it is, ready for your viewing pleasure! It was just the pick me up I needed. SPREAD THE LAUGHTER!

scrub

Awaken Sea Salt Scrub from Arbonne’s Aromassentials – $36

Talk about my HOLY GRAIL scrub – I reviewed it a while back. Here it is if you’re interested. This sea salt scrub is full of beautiful smelling essential oils that hydrate your skin instantly ensuring that it is left looking supple, luminescent and beautiful. The sea salt works to scrub away all the dry patches and heals and repairs at the same time, revealing brighter healthier looking skin!

Before I found this scrub my legs were always so painfully dry and scaly – now I don’t have that problem. That is why this beautiful scrub has made it onto my cold weather essentials. I use it 3-4 times a week depending on how often I want to pamper myself.

seasource

Re-Mineralizing Body Lotion 24H from Arbonne’s SeaSource Detox Spa – $61

Finding a moisturizer that I love has always been a hard task for me. Either it doesn’t actually hydrate and it just masks the problem or it is too oily and greasy. When I first tried this moisturizer I was BLOWN AWAY! I love it. It has a hydro-trap technology that helps to hydrate and hold its moisture so you’re not losing it throughout the day. It also helps to give your skin a firmer appearance and it soften your skin. Also because its sea salt based it repairs and heals! I happily use it everyday!

handsandfeet

Pampermint Hand and Foot Care Set from Arbonne’s Holiday line – $46

The smell is INSANELY YUMMY. When I put it on to pamper my hands or feet I can’t help but breath in that authentic candy-cane smell. I just want to eat my hands! And the best part in it is not artificial fragrance that has tons of chemicals, it is all safe smells that come from real ingredients! Everyone asks what it is every time I wear it – it is the perfect smell to get into the holiday spirit.

So there are three of my ALL TIME FAVOURITE cold weather essentials for the body, keep your eyes open for the next one which will be face related! Also one of these goodies could be in a giveaway I’m planning to do soon – so eyes open for that as well!

What are some of your favourite cold weather essentials? Have you tried any of these must haves?

Stay lovely,

Fall Time Favourites

Fall Time Favourites

Hey Pretty Lovelies,

I’ve been MIA lately thanks to life, work and school so I thought to get myself back in the swing of things I’ll start doing shorter posts more frequently. We will see how that goes… keep me honest!

Here are some of my fall favourites this season for accessories!

IMG_2529
The weather here in Toronto has been pretty back and forth so depending on the day I can rock my mock moccasins. I love that these can both scream summer or fall to me. The other pair are great for dressing up or dressing casual, love it!

IMG_2528
The festival backpack is great for the transition between summer and fall. And the old school inspired school bag screams being at school while the leaves are changing.

IMG_2524
I love these pieces of jewelry. I am a SUCKER for a fake leather wrap around bracelet.  The other bracelet I got from either my mom or my grandmothers jewelry collection, I love the vintage vibe, especially for fall. The two rings are classics, I always make my way back to them.

I can’t leave out my fox ring which I am crazy about. Foxes are my favourite animal, how adorable is that thing!

What have been some of your fall favourites?!

Stay lovely!

Pretty Great “Ingredients” Series

pretty great ingredients

Hey Pretty Lovelies!

You may have seen the Pretty Bad Ingredients post which focused on educating our readers on how important reading your labels is! Now on the flip side I’m giving you some ingredients, etc that are good for you! So here are a few things you want to look for when shopping for both skincare and beauty!

1. pH Correct
Did you know that our skin is actually slightly acidic? It sits at a 5.5 on the pH scale. And the reason its slightly acidic is to ward off pollutants, free radicles, environment, etc. So its seriously important to be using a product that is pH correct. When you use a product that isn’t pH correct it strips your acid mantle and can cause problem skin like dry skin, oily skin, acne, break-outs, etc. We aren’t suppose to have problem skin! When I switched to a pH correct product my skin totally changed, I no longer have dry skin, and my skin has a new glow. I only get break-outs when I eat unhealthy or sometimes when its that time of the month.

2. Vegan
I’m pretty sure all of us here LOVE animals, and if you don’t — shame on you! They’re adorable and fluffy and the best. It is so easy for us to turn a blind eye to skincare and cosmetics companies that test on animals. But for me once I found all vegan skincare and cosmetics it was a no brainer, why would I support companies that have shitty morals? Yes I write for a beauty blog and yes I will review and talk about products from companies that do test on animals and that do have animal by-products but on a day to day basis I’m all about vegan. I think from now on I’ll make a note on each post about whether a product is cruelty-free or not.

3. Dermatologist TESTED
Often we’ll see dermatologist recommended on a product. This means that the dermatologist was paid for by the company to recommend it, regardless of whether they believe in or like the product or not. But when you see dermatologist tested you know its a product that has been responsibly tested for you. Tested usually means that whatever the product says it does, it actually does!

Feel free to ask any questions if you have any! Do you have any ingredients, etc that you look for in your products?

Stay lovely,

Pretty Bad Ingredients Series

Pretty Bad Ingredients

Hey Pretty Lovelies!

As some of you may know within the last few months I started working with a vegan health and wellness company called Arbonne as a consultant. I’ve always been fascinated by how skincare and beauty products impact our health so I love that my job is about educating people. I thought it would be a fun idea to do a series of posts that focus on that! Look out for Pretty Great Ingredients where I’ll talk about things you want from your skincare and cosmetics!

1. Mineral Oil
Skincare and beauty companies are so sneaky because when I first saw the word mineral oil I thought it was a good thing, like mineral water, etc. But it turns out its actually a by-product of the crude oil industry – read Benzene Gasoline! It costs the gas companies a lot of money to dispose of it properly so instead they sell it off to skincare and beauty companies (especially in North America) so they can use it as cheap filler. And if thats not bad enough its linked to cancer, its the 2nd reason for aging after the sun AND it sits on your skin like plastic wrap so your biggest detoxifying organ aka your skin can’t detox and IF there is anything good in the product its not going in to benefit you.

2. Glycerin
Aka Animal by-product. This is definitely the one that upsets me the most and why I strive to use all Vegan skincare and beauty products for my day to day routine. Have you ever heard of Animal Rendering? Its the recycling process by which Animal by-products get into skincare and beauty (this is a HUGE Industry in North America). They take all meat deemed inedible for us like roadkill, euthanized pets, dead zoo animals, rotten meat, etc and they boil it all together and whatever rises to the top — you guessed it, gets sold to cosmetic companies for filler. Also natural and organic products can still have animal by-products so looking for the word Vegan is key. Note: Glycerin (plant) is in the safe zone!

3. Parfum (Fragrance)
This is an umbrella term for a variety of cocktail chemicals, meaning these companies don’t actually have to tell you what they’ve put in the product! That seriously scares me because there are about 3,000 chemicals they can use and leave nameless without even testing to see if they are TOXIC! And if a product says fragrance free or unscented it can still have chemicals to mask smells of the other chemicals in the products.

Now I’m not going to throw any companies under the bus just yet but I strongly encourage you to READ YOUR LABELS! Even if these products aren’t doing damage to your health now, over time they definitely will. So I suggest starting to introduce safer, healthier products into your day to day routine.

If you are curious to know more let me know as I love educating and spreading the word! Do YOU have any ingredients you like to avoid?

Stay Lovely,
